What do these very different subjects have in common? You will have to come to this meeting to find out…or wait until a report appears in a later issue of this bulletin. I can tell you that secrets of the ancient and modern are sometimes preserved in minerals, and that Tammie’s presentation is an earth science story with clues worthy of a Sherlock Holmes tale.
Until recently it has been impossible to decipher some mineralogical information on a meaningful scale, but recently Tammie and her colleagues are solving such mysteries, some of which are related to shipwrecks, drinking water, cultural artifacts, and more by using synchrotron-based techniques at Argonne National Laboratories in Illinois that allow a peek at very small details…clues to solving some ancient and modern mysteries.
The program will be an interesting follow-up to GeoFair, not very technical, and great for folks of every age. Guests are most welcome at our meetings.
