Steve is an active member of the Greater Cincinnati Lapidary and Faceting Society, whose membership fashions minerals and fossils into lapidary objects. Although a small number of our membership is somewhat familiar with this type of workmanship, I thought it would be fun to see how the experts practice the lapidary arts. Accordingly, Steve has enlisted the participation of Keith Arend and Ray Scott to prepare a demonstration for us that explains the basic techniques used by lapidaries to facet crystals, form agates and other materials into cabochons, and show how metal work can be used to make these objects into wearable jewelry.
Of particular interest to those of us who display our mineral or fossil finds, either at home or at shows, will be a demonstration of the ways these can be prepared for exhibit with the use of lapidary equipment.
This will be our first meeting after the summer break and, as always, the public is invited to attend. The program will be for all ages and knowledge levels.
